Your tour of India (Highlights of India) begins:
DAY 1 – SATURDAY – DELHI
Arrive in Delhi, India’s bustling capital city. You will be greeted with a traditional Indian welcome and escorted to the hotel. New Delhi reflects the legacy the British left behind. The division between New and Old Delhi is the segregation between the capitals of the British and the Mughals respectively. The rest of the day is at your leisure to adjust to the time difference. DAY 2 – SUNDAY – OLD & NEW DELHI TOUR
After breakfast at your hotel, begin your tour of Old Delhi, visiting Mahatma Gandhi Memorial at Raj Ghat and the famous Chandni Chowk bazaars, once the shopping arcade of Mughal royalty. Take a rickshaw ride through the narrow and colorful lanes of the old market. Visit the marble domes and slender minarets of the Jama Masjid. After lunch, tour New Delhi – visit Bangla Sahib, a Sikh temple; and drive along Rajpath to photograph the Parliament House, President’s Palace and India Gate, a memorial to India’s soldiers. Continue to Humayun’s tomb, the forerunner to Taj Mahal. Your final stop is at the Qutab Minar, Iron Pillar and the ruins of Hindu temples destroyed during the Qutabshahi period. HOTEL (B, L)
DAY 3- MONDAY – DELHI / JAIPUR
Your time is free to explore Delhi on your own. Late this afternoon, fly to Jaipur, where you will be assisted and transferred to your hotel. The city owes its name, foundations and careful planning to the great warrior and astronomer, Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. After lunch, tour the City Palace, once the formal residence of the royal family, built in a blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture. Continue to the Jantar Mantar, the largest of Jai Singh’s five remarkable, stone observatories. HOTEL (B, L)
DAY 4 – TUESDAY – AMBER FORT & CITY TOUR
Explore the ancient capital of Amber, ascending the Palace Fortress on the back of a gaily-caparisoned elephant, and tour the intricate chambers and hallway. En route to Amber, you’ll stop to photograph the Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds), built in 1799 A.D. Your afternoon is free to explore the city on own. HOTEL (B, L)

DAY 5- WEDNESDAY -JAIPUR / AGRA – Fatehpur Sikri
Board the express train to Bharatpur and travel overland to Agra. Along the way, visit Fatehpur Sikri, once an imperial capital, constructed by Akbar the great around 1570, and now frozen in time. It was abandoned as abruptly as it had been built. Visit Sheikh Salim Chisti Dargah, originally built of red sandstone, but later rebuilt in white marble by Jehangir. DAY 7 - FRIDAY - AGRA / VARANASI
DAY 8 – SATURDAY – BOAT CRUISE & CITY TOUR – VARANASI / DELHI
Rise early for a boat ride on the Holy River Ganges to witness the many Hindus absolving themselves of sin and paying homage to the sun god. Disembark for a walk past the local markets and shops, and visit a local resident’s home. Visit the Golden Temple before returning for breakfast at your hotel. Later, visit Sarnath, a place where Buddha preached his first lessons on Nirvana. Browse its fine collection of Buddhist artifacts. Later this evening, board your flight to Delhi & stay at Hotel near airport. HOTEL (B, L)
