After breakfast take a full day tour to explore the architecture and history of Hanoi. In the morning, visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Ho Chi Minh’s former residence, the One Pillar Pagoda and the Temple of Literature. In the afternoon, visit the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts, the Lake of the Restored Sword and Ngoc Son temple. A tour of Hanoi’s Old Quarter by cyclo is a relaxing way to end the day. The tour includes a stop at an ancient Vietnamese longhouse.
HANOI – Day at leisure
Enjoy a day of leisure to explore the city on your own or take an optional tour.
HANOI / HALONG BAY
Travel by road through the rural countryside to Halong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Arrive at Cat Imported Photos 00093Ba and board the Emeraude Boat (deluxe cabin). Enjoy a refreshing welcome cocktail upon check-in on the sun deck. After the cruise commences, a lavish buffet lunch is served at the restaurant. Travel by tender to see the Sung Sot Cave (Cave of Surprises), weather permitting. The journey also includes the option of kayaking or swimming near Hang Trong; a Vietnamese cuisine demonstration; complimentary canapés at the sun deck bar; a scrumptious international buffet dinner served at the restaurant; and an evening movie show at the sun deck. HALONG BAY / HANOI / DANANG / HOI AN
Start the morning with Tai Chi exercises on the sun deck. Enjoy a breakfast buffet (or brunch) served in the restaurant. Disembark and retrace your steps back to Hanoi, visiting Phu Lang Village en route. Board flight to Danang. Transfer to Hoi An. En route, visit the Cham Museum, housing the world’s finest collection of Cham artwork, and the Marble Mountains, famed for being a hideout for Vietnamese guerillas during the Vietnam War. On arrival check in at the hotel.
HOI AN TOURING
In the morning, take a walking tour of this attractive town, visiting ancient merchant houses, a Hokkien Temple, the 400-year-old Japanese Covered Bridge, and the colorful riverside market.
In the afternoon, visit a workshop where artisans make Hoi An’s famous lanterns. Learn how the lanterns are made, and then try creating your own lantern, from designing the frame to gluing the cloth.
Finish the day with a sunset boat trip on the Thu Bon River to Thanh Ha pottery village.
HOI AN / HUE
Depart Hoi An for the ancient capital of Hue. The three-hour drive hugs the coastline, winds through emerald-green paddy fields, and climbs over the dramatic Hai Van mountain pass. Upon arrival in Hue visit the imperial Citadel before transferring to the hotel.
HUE / HO CHI MINH CITY
Take a morning boat cruise through the center of Hue on the romantic Perfume River. Visit the seven-story Thien Mu Pagoda and the elaborate tomb of Emperor Tu Duc. Stop en route to learn how Vietnam’s famous conical hats and colorful incenses are made. Afternoon transfer to airport for the flight to Ho Chi Minh City. Upon arrival, transfer to hotel. The rest of the evening is free.
HO CHI MINH CITY
After breakfast, drive to the extraordinary Cu Chi tunnels, just outside Ho Chi Minh City. During the Vietnam War, Vietnamese guerrillas built the labyrinth of narrow tunnels virtually underneath U.S. bases, using them to hide during bombing raids and to stage surprise attacks. Depending on the season, you will then visit a farm, see cashew nut farming, or witness the production of rice paper, a key ingredient in Vietnamese cuisine. Return to Ho Chi Minh City in the afternoon for a half-day city tour. Visit the Reunification Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral, Central Post Office, China Town, Binh Tay Market and Thien Hau Temple.
HO CHI MINH CITY / SIEM REAP
After breakfast transfer to the airport for the flight to Siem Reap. On arrival transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon explore Khmer temples from the early Angkor period. Visit the Roluos group of temples dating from the 9th and 10th century, including the Preah Ko, Bakong and Lolei temples. Return to the hotel in the evening.
FULL DAY TOUR OF ANGKOR, CAMBODIA
Begin exploration of the ancient city of Angkor by entering Angkor Thom via the south gate. Continue the journey by viewing the ruins at Bayon, Baphoun, Phimeanakas, The Royal Palace, the Elephant terraces and the Leper King terrace.
In the afternoon, visit the epic Angkor Wat, viewing its extraordinary architecture and bas-reliefs. End the Imported Photos 00052day with a spectacular sunset viewed from the mountain temple of Phnom Bakheng.
FULL DAY TOUR OF ANGKOR, CAMBODIA
After breakfast, proceed to the graceful 11th-century temple of Shiva, Banteay Srei, and the Banteay Samre temple. On the way back, stop at the three-tiered temple hill of Pre Rup. There view the Bantey Kdei with its rarely seen sculpted female deities, the Lake of Srah Srang, and the impressive Ta Prohm Temple, which is dramatically enveloped by jungle. Visit Ta Keo, Chau Say Tevada and Thommanon Temples before returning to the hotel.
SIEM REAP, CAMBODIA – FLIGHT BACK HOME
After breakfast, enjoy free time until transfer to the international airport to board your return flight.
